Memberships at Chanctonbury Leisure

Here at Chanctonbury there are a variety of ways to access all our facilities.

All Chanctonbury memberships also provide discounted access to Arundel Lido.

Non-Members

All of our facilities and activities are available on a Pay As You Go basis. Classes, court hire and Sauna & Steam can be booked online or via Reception.

Standard Membership

An Annual Fee of £40/£30 for a Standard Membership provides all facilities and activities at a discounted Pay As You Go rate.

Direct Debit & Annual Up Front Memberships

Provide unlimited use of our Fitness Suite, all Group Exercise Classes, Sauna & Steam, Gym Induction, Monthly Personal Programmes, Boditrax Body Composition Analysis, all Drop-In sports sessions (Badminton, Pickleball, Short Mat Bowls, Walking Football etc), all CCL Community Classes in local Village Halls and access to three Apps – Chanctonbury Community Leisure, Technogym and Boditrax.

1. General Terms

a. In these Terms and Conditions, “Member” means the Member named on the application form. “Contract” means the contract between Chanctonbury Community Leisure and the Member subject to the terms and conditions as listed below. The “Proprietor” means Chanctonbury Community Leisure and shall include the Manager and any Employee of the Company. The Proprietor shall have an absolute discretion upon whether to accept the application for Membership of an applicant as a Member of Chanctonbury Community Leisure

b. Acceptance of the Proprietor of an application for Membership to Chanctonbury Community Leisure shall constitute as a binding contract between the Proprietor and the Member upon the terms and conditions of membership and the rules of the centres.

2. Limitation of Liability

In consideration of the Proprietor accepting the application for membership the Member agrees that:
a. The Proprietor shall not be liable for any loss, damage or theft of the property of the Member. The Member agrees to indemnify the Proprietor against any claim which should be made against the Proprietor by a guest of the Member.
b. The Proprietor shall not be liable for the death or injury of the Member as a result of the use of the facilities and/or equipment provided by the Proprietor except to the extent that such injury or
death arises by reasons of the negligence of the Proprietor.

3. Physical Condition of the Member

a. The Member warrants and represents to the best of their knowledge that he/she is in acceptable
physical condition and that he/she is capable of engaging in active or passive exercise and that such
exercise would not be detrimental to his/her health, safety or physical condition.
b. Prior to any fitness activity Members must read and comply with the Chanctonbury Community Leisure Health Commitment Statement. Chanctonbury Community Leisure accept no liability for conditions not known at the time of the membership or when they occur during the life of the membership. Members with any medical conditions which are flagged as high risk must see their GP prior to taking part in any physical activity.
c. The Member accepts that membership to use the Chanctonbury Community Leisure Fitness Suite is subject to approval only by the authorisation from a Chanctonbury Community Leisure qualified gym instructor or equivalent on agreement for the Health Commitment Statement.

4. Membership Application

a. Once membership has been granted, the Member is bound by the terms and conditions of this contract, which may be amended from time to time. Membership shall only be effective on issue of a valid membership card.
b. The Management reserves the right to reject any application for membership.
c. Family Membership is applicable for 2 adults and 2 children under 16, or 16/17 and in full time education (proof will be required). Additional children may be added for an additional monthly fee.

5. Membership Types

a. Monthly Direct Debit Membership entitles the Member to the use of all* Chanctonbury Community Leisure fitness facilities *dependent upon type of membership purchased and times during normal opening hours.
b. Chanctonbury Community Leisure reserves the right to vary normal opening hours and to introduce, withdraw and vary categories of membership from time to time. In each case,
Chanctonbury Community Leisure will provide at least one month’s notice of such changes, such notice to be displayed at the Centre.
c. Certain memberships do not include all of the services and facilities; those not included will be
charged at the published prices as in the price list.

6. Membership Card

a. Upon acceptance by Chanctonbury Community Leisure of the Member’s application, the Member will be issued with a membership card and the Member will be entitled to all the rights and privileges exercisable by the type of membership for which his/her application has been accepted.
b. A Member may not loan his/her membership card or permit its used by anyone other than the Member.
c. If a membership card is lost or mislaid, the Management will issue a replacement card for a
nominal charge.
d. Any Member wishing to enter Chanctonbury Community Leisure without a valid membership card will only be admitted at the absolute discretion of the Management.
e. It is an express condition of Membership that a valid Membership Car / QR Code is to be presented upon every entry to the Centre.

7. Joining Fees & Membership Dues & Cancellations

a. Members may pay an initial joining fee subject to current promotions, which shall become due
immediately upon being accepted as a Member.
b. Membership must remain current in order to avoid paying the Joining Fee again. All Direct Debits are to be paid monthly. If a debt accrues on an account, the Member will not be able to use the facilities until the debt has been cleared in full. If a Direct Debit payment is not received , Members will receive an email or text notification that will require action within 7 days to avoid cancellation and potential further action to recover the debt. After 7 days on non-payment members will incur a further administration fee of £15.
c. Monthly Direct Debit Members shall pay a monthly membership subscription on the 1st every month. The first monthly payment will be taken by direct debit on the next available date – a pro rata rate of the monthly fee will be taken upon joining to allow immediate use of the facilities.
d. Monthly subscriptions shall be payable by each Member irrespective of the actual usage of the club or change in personal circumstances and shall be debited from the Member’s bank account monthly or paid annually in advance as specified.
e. The Proprietor may increase membership subscriptions and activities each year. One month’s
notice will be given in advance via internal posters.
f. Chanctonbury Community Leisure will continue to collect your monthly subscription after any listed Minimum Period. Should you not wish to continue subscribing after the Minimum Period, or should you not wish to continue with a Rolling Contract Membership, you must give notice to cancel the contract of at least 1 calendar month before the final payment of the minimum period. For all Membership Types if you wish to cancel the contract, you must give at least 1 calendar months’ notice. The notice should be in writing via email address enquiries@ccleisure.org or membership@ccleisure.org
g. For all minimum term contracts cancellation is not permitted before the minimum term is spent. If cancellation is required the remaining term must be paid in full before the Membership is considered cancelled.
h. For the avoidance of doubt cancellation of a Direct Debit at the bank does not constitute cancellation of membership. The process laid out in 7.f. must be followed for all cancellations.
i. CCL offers the option to freeze a membership for just £5 per month. Members must give at least 1 calendar months’ notice and the maximum time period for a freeze is 3 months. All notice must be given in writing via email address enquiries@ccleisure.org or membership@ccleisure.org

8. Hours of opening

a. The Centres’ normal hours of operation and the hours in which any facility in the club is available to Members are displayed in the Centre. Such hours may be lengthened or shortened at the entire discretion of the Manager, with or without any prior notice to Members being given. The Manager shall however endeavour to give reasonable notice of any lengthening or shortening of such hours.

9. Booking Policies

a. Monthly Direct Debit Members can book 8 days in advance (but only 1 day in advance for Standard Members).
b. If a Member who has booked an activity at any of the Chanctonbury Community Leisure facilities and does not abide by the 2-hour cancellation policy, they will be required to pay for the cost of the activity.
c. If a Member fails to show for a pre-booked activity (i.e. aerobic class), after the third no show for the same activity, the Member’s pre-booking rights may be removed and the Member will be unable to pre-book any activities.
d. If a Member has made an internet booking for an activity, the 2 hour cancellation policy applies see Term 9b.
e. Certain facilities and activities must be booked in advance i.e. the Health Suite. Failure to book these facilities in advance may result in the member being unable to use the facility, regardless of membership type.
f. Monthly racket sports hire only includes a 1 hour booking on 1 court each day in either the Main Hall or Studio for one of the following activities, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, the 2 hour cancellation policy applies see Term 9b.

10. Age Restriction

a. Monthly Direct Debit Memberships are available at the age of 16yrs but will need parental consent
b. Use of aerobic classes and the health and fitness facilities is restricted to over 16 year olds, unless
attending junior aerobic/fitness sessions strictly organised by Chanctonbury Community Leisure.
c. Children, who have reached 8 years of age, are expected to use the changing rooms designated for
their own sex or a family changing room if available.

11. General

a. Fraudulent or wrongful information given in order to obtain a discounted membership will result in the cancellation of all membership rights.
b. In the event of any default of the Member, the Proprietor may disclose personal particulars
contained in the membership agreement to a credit reference agency or any other party necessary in obtaining settlement of arrears.
c. If through circumstances beyond the control of the Proprietors the Centre is unable to provide
the full range of services as advertised, the Member shall remain liable for all membership fees. This is subject to the Managements’ discretion.
d. Corporate Members will not be eligible for any discounts applicable for introducing another
Corporate Member.
e. Failure to comply with or follow Chanctonbury Leisure Centre rules, guidelines, etiquette within the confines of the Chanctonbury Leisure Centre will result in the withdrawal of membership. This will be at the absolute discretion of the Manager. Chanctonbury Community Leisure reserve the right to withdraw access to membership at any time.
