Our Partners

Storrington & Sullington Parish Council (SSPC)

The Storrington & Sullington Parish Council is our Landlord with whom we enjoy an extremely positive relationship. It was SSPC who, during the National Lockdown in 2020, had the foresight to step in and effectively save the Leisure Centre. Working in close partnership with Chanctonbury Community Leisure, SSPC assisted in ensuring the Centre was able to open again and continues to be a proactive and supportive partner.

The Storrington & Sullington Community

Nestling at the foot of the South Downs National Park with views of South Downs Storrington & Sullington is at the very heart of rural West Sussex.

The community started to grow as Saxons settled around the River Stor and other streams and springs which cascade from the chalk downlands.

Water and Wind then led to mill based industries which lasted right up until the 19th century.

Area of Storrington

There is now a bustling high street and shopping precinct in Storrington where you can buy anything from your weekly shop to specialist cakes or objects d’art. For the gastronome there is a range of restaurants, pubs and coffee shops.

There is also a wealth of recreational facilities within the villages of Storrington & Sullington, including, of course, the Leisure Centre, children’s playgrounds and parks, ponds, the Football Club and Cricket Club to name but a few.

All of this is based around an historical conservation area, steeped in history with wonderful examples of old churches and manors.

It can honestly be said that with its tangible spirit of community, there is something for everyone in and around the vibrant and picturesque villages of Storrington & Sullington.

Storrington & Sullington Neighbourhood Wardens

Based within the community, our neighbourhood wardens work alongside partner agencies to improve the quality of life for everyone and promote community cohesion and resilience. The Wardens undertake a number of activities, including enforcement to community development. As part of our role in Storrington and Sullington as Neighbourhood Wardens, we arrange events for vulnerable and socially isolated residents.

We are very lucky and with the Centre’s support we successfully run the following on a regular basis:

Cuppa and a Chat

This event is for the elderly residents of the community and has been running at the Leisure centre for over 3 years. We regularly see twenty plus residents turn up just for a cuppa and a chat. Some of the feedback we hear from the attendees is truly heartwarming – “This is the only place I go out in the month” and “it’s so good to see old and new friends”. The sessions runs every month and is free – please contact us for more details.

Stay and Play

This weekly event is for Autistic and SEN children. Without the Leisure Centre this opportunity would not exist. We see parents and carers coming from all over the area as there is nothing similar running in this rural part of the District and it is great to see the children enjoying themselves, with the parents and carers relaxing as they know that nobody will judge them and everyone understands.

We also deliver regular Fun Days for young people and attend a multitude of events at the Centre.
