1980's
The original building that housed the Chanctonbury leisure entre was constructed in the late 1980’s and was largely down to a huge amount of local fundraising and support from the local Parish Council and Horsham Distrcit Council. The Centre was managed by the West Chanctonbury Recreation Association (WCRA). The Centre comprised a 4 badminton court sports hall and a bar upstairs – and that was it !

1990's
During the 1990’s the Centre saw the introduction of a Gym and a number of Group Exercise Classes.

2004/5
Then, in 2004 / 05 with funding from Sport England, Horsham District Council and local fundraising a huge extension was put into place providing a New Hall / Studio, a new Reception area and café and a Multi Use Games Area outside.

2010/11
In 2010/11 the Charity merged with a local leisure provider which gave the Centre added financial stability.

2019
However the operator became insolvent at the point of COVID-19 and left the Centre with a very uncertain future.

2020
However, in 2020 in the midst of the National Lockdown the Charity, Chanctonbury Community Leisure was formed. With the unwavering support of the Storrington & Sullington Parish Council together with assistance from West Chitlington Parish Council, Thakeham Parish Council and Tesla Engineering Ltd the Centre officially reopened on 12th April 2021.
Present
From this standing start the Centre is now a thriving Community Hub with over 1850 members and between 17,000 – 20,000 visits per month. In the last 5 years the Centre has seen a further £500k of investment including a refurbished gym and reception and hosts a multitude of opportunities for the whole community.
